"The Hellenic Cultural Association of Cyprus" was founded in 1947 and aims to cultivate Greek literature and the arts.
Τhe "The Hellenic Cultural Association of
Cyprus" has set as goals the cultivation of a productive
dialogue and communication between its members as also the conducting of
scientific discussions and research relating primarily to Greek
letters and arts from antiquity until today, and to related issues of
other advanced countries, mainly associated with the growth and culture of
Greek civilization.
Moreover, the Association consider it a high priority to promote Greek culture,
enable the understanding of Greek culture and mainly to cultivate and
strengthen the bonds between the organization and other relevant Cultural
European groups.
The founder and first President of the Group was Constantinos Spyridakis
who was the first Minister of Education of the Republic of Cyprus. Second
President was the Greek writer Kypros Chrysanthis, who was succeeded by Costas
Hadjistefanou, Maroula Violaris and Costas Giorgallidis. The
present President is Chrysothemis Hadjipanayi.
Τhe Hellenic Cultural Association of Cyprus issued, by
the end of the second year of its foundation, an annual Bulletin, which
in 1960 was renamed “Philological Cyprus" and actively
participates in various cultural events in our country. In 1979 it was
awarded the Prize of the Academy of Athens.
The "Philological Cyprus" focuses on a wide
range of subjects related to Greek literature and art and its pages are
interspersed with black and white drawings or photographs of Cypriot artists.
“Τhe Hellenic Cultural Association of Cyprus” has assets
of considerable literary and philological publications aiming to facilitate the
understanding of Greek literature and civilization.
The overall aim of the Group is the dissemination of its cultural
contribution on a pan-European level, in cooperation with similar or other
cultural associations.
